Ms. Afaf Konja

Ms. Afaf Konja, the current Spokesperson for the President of the United Nations General Assembly 68th session:

Afaf began her decade-long career in television news at the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) local affiliate, KGTV/10 News in San Diego, California. Her interviews with world leaders have spanned throughout the global South, and include the UN Secretary-General, General Assembly Presidents, along with in-studio interviews with heads of State and Government. Working in the context of international diplomacy and global development as the Spokesperson for the President of the UN General Assembly 68th session, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, Afaf pulls from her vast hands-on experience, from live coverage at UN General Debates to special coverage at the Conference on Sustainable Development or Rio+20, Conference on Least Developed Countries, ECOSOC High-level Ministerial Reviews, UN World Urban Forum, Global South-South Development Expos, Forums of the Convention of Independent Financial Advisors, Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Conference, Climate Change Conferences, and on; receiving a personal "Thank You" note from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for her coverage of his official visit through South America in 2011 and calling her a "champion for South-South Cooperation." Afaf has hosted and produced a live talk show on Dandana TV, a 24/7 news and entertainment media outlet with a focus on social issues and the Middle East. She has also worked with numerous international television, satellite and on-line news platforms both at the United Nations as a UN Correspondent and outside as a field reporter, producer and program editor. Afaf has hosted live High-level red carpet galas. Her talents include commercial acting, radio broadcasting and voice-over work. Afaf is fluent in Aramaic and is conversant in French.
